On Your Mark
April twenty-first marks my one-year employment anniversary with Corporation, Incorporated. Naturally, my immediate superior will be administering my first performance review, and although I do not feel any pressure, I must admit there’s a tinge of anxiety. Of course, if it’s strictly a matter of my work, then the only thing I expect are accolades. But, in a cursory conversation with my immediate superior, he mentioned off-handedly that he was also interested in identifying future leaders. What does this mean? Is it a question of personality? Obviously, it’s more than what I understand a conventional performance review to be.
Contemplating this and other things on my drive home tonight, I began thinking about music. This has been happening quite a bit lately; the stress of my everyday life has been somewhat alleviated by either playing my guitar, listening to my favorite bands/composers, or thinking about dramatic cinematic moments and the powerful scores that accompany them. Although my work has not suffered in the slightest, I am beginning to wonder if my hobby will ever become a distraction. However, as long as I am aware of this possibility, I will be sure to do everything in my power to prevent this from becoming reality.
